Shopping for a cleaning product can be confusing. A product’s purpose, instructions and ingredient-related information deserve more attention than a reassuring color or fragrance.
Understand what the mark means
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Safer Choice program helps identify products evaluated against its criteria for safer chemical ingredients. The program includes a searchable product list and information about its standards.
Choose for the job
Read the directions and confirm that the product is suitable for the intended surface and task. A cleaning-product label is not a substitute for understanding how the product should be used.
Make fewer assumptions
Words and imagery on packaging do not tell the whole story. Look for a clearly identified program or standard and follow its official information rather than interpreting an unfamiliar badge yourself.
